Over the last year and a half, many American families have relied on pandemic-related unemployment insurance benefits to keep food on the table and a roof over their head.
Although our Democratic majorities in Congress and President Biden have made it a priority to maintain these benefits, we now know our system simply falls short, and that our economic recovery depends on strengthening unemployment insurance programs so they can fulfill their intended purpose.
That’s why I, along with my colleagues Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Cori Bush, introduced legislation to strengthen our unemployment system and better support workers through periods of unemployment.
