Congratulations to Nursing Innovations Fund Award Winners
For their creative proposals to build greater health equity, six state coalitions have earned financial backing from the
Campaign for Action Nursing Innovations Fund. Delaware, Kentucky, Montana, Pennsylvania, Utah, and West Virginia secured matching funds for a range of inspired nurse-led collaborative projects that tackle inequities in health.
The American Academy of Nursing has inducted its 2021 honorees, and the Campaign for Action
is proud to have four among its leaders. Susan B. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, was named a Living Legend; Winifred V. Quinn, PhD, FAANP(h), is now an honorary fellow; Antonia Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN, earned the Health Care Leader Award and Catherine Alicia Georges, EdD, RN, FAAN, has earned its Lifetime Legacy Award. Congratulations to all honorees.
Nurse Wins AARP Purpose Prize for Aid to African Immigrants
“The African immigrant population in America is one of the most negatively affected by existing health inequities in the U.S.,” says Ify Anne Nwabukwu, BSN, RN. That’s why she founded the African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association in 2004—and it’s why AARP has awarded her $50,000 as one of five people over 50 earning a Purpose Prize this year.
Moore Inaugural Fellows Write of Importance of HBCUs
Newly published: Four fellows in the inaugural cohort of the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators program have produced the program’s first collaborative paper of the program. Congratulations to those who authored “Black nurse scientists and the undeniable role of historically black colleges and universities.”

They discuss The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Report, partnerships, and using technology for cost-efficient health care delivery.
Complex Care Center Offers Toolkit for Educators, Providers
The National Center for Complex Care and Social last year developed core competencies for frontline complex care providers. Now the Center is providing guidance for use of those core competency findings. The new toolkit reviews the principles of teaching and training complex care and helps educators and managers assess and improve their own efforts.

New - Root Cause Coalition Seeks Nominations for National Award
The Root Cause Coalition is proud to announce its new Health Justice Award program, honoring organizations that are partnering with others to reduce health disparities. The nonprofit coalition, which seeks to end the root causes of health inequities, asks for nominations—and help spreading word of the award. Deadline: January 31, 2022 at 11:50 PT.
Submit your one-of-a-kind innovations to the American Nurses Foundation for the opportunity to bring them to life with funds from its Reimagining Nursing Initiative. Your ideas can bring transformative change to our health care system by supporting nurses, the backbone of the health system. Grants are $500,000 to $1.5 million. Deadline: October 25.
Public Health AmeriCorps To Start “New Generation” of Leaders
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and AmeriCorps are partnering on an initiative that aims to develop “a new generation of public health leaders who will be ready to respond to the nation’s public health needs.” Public Health AmeriCorps will recruit and build a new workforce that provide public health service in people’s own communities. Deadline: November 8.
Are you a midcareer health professional or behavioral/social scientist with an interest in health and health care policy? Ready for a full-time commitment with a minimum 12-month residence in Washington, D.C.? The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program is looking for you, and other leaders seeking to improve health equity, health care, and health policy. Deadline: November 12.
The American Red Cross has put out a call for volunteers, listing its “most-needed volunteer opportunities” in shelters, disaster health services, blood collection support, and disaster action teams. Other opportunities are available, too, even virtual posts. Nurses, nursing students, and those not in the health field are encouraged to apply.
Are you a Black or Latinx nursing student or professional? Have you ever been a participant, administrator, mentor, staff, or volunteer in a program to boost diversity in the nursing workforce? The Urban Institute will hold paid focus groups for nursing professionals to understand how to increase the number of Black and Latinx nursing and medical professionals.
RWJF Funds Pioneering Ideas: Exploring the Future to Build a Culture of Health
What can we do today to create a better, more equitable tomorrow? The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation invites scientists, anthropologists, artists, urban planners, community leaders and others who have new ideas that could alter the trajectory of health to apply for the Pioneering Ideas grant.
