According to Yvette, “Human beings are responsible for programming and creating algorithms. If that human being’s experience is limited or has been jaded in any way by an ideological philosophy, and that person – based on those assumptions – program or code, those algorithms will be a reflection of that person’s experience.”
Mortgage approvals, job applications, and more are all done online – and when algorithms are built with inherent bias, technology can result in discriminatory decisions. Yvette has been committed to regulating new technologies in order to ensure that they serve to improve our society, not harm it. She’s sponsored the Algorithmic Accountability Act, DEEPFAKES Accountability Act, and more to ensure that Congress is being proactive and protecting marginalized communities.
