Senator Duckworth has led an incomparable life, and her story is both riveting and full of hope.

In her new memoir, Every Day is a Gift [[link removed]] , Senator Duckworth vividly describes the events that have defined her life and character. Circumstances that make her one of our truly great Senators.

In November 2004, an Iraqi rocket-propelled grenade blew through the cockpit of the U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter she was piloting. The explosion destroyed her legs and mangled her right arm.

It was a turning point for Tammy Duckworth. She spent the next thirteen months recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital, learning to walk again on prosthetic legs.

John, Senator Tammy Duckworth is a personal hero of mine. Her service to our country and personal courage is an inspiration. That’s why I’m honored and humbled to be hosting her book event on October 20 at 7:30 P.M. EST/4:30 P.M. PST.

Tammy Duckworth has had a lifetime of extraordinary turns.

From her childhood growing up in war-torn Phnom Penh to serving two terms in the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate from Illinois in 2016, Tammy Duckworth represents the fulfillment of the American Dream.

It can indeed be said of my friend, Tammy Duckworth, that she persisted through all life has dealt her.

That’s why I’m so pleased to host this event for her. I hope you will join us.
