Oil giants like ExxonMobil don’t want us to know about the front groups and think tanks they use to spread disinformation about climate science. They don’t want us to know about their multi-million dollar climate denialist ad campaigns. And they definitely don’t want us to know about the teams of lobbyists working behind the scenes in D.C. to build opposition to clean energy legislation.
But for the first time in Congressional history, they’re going to answer for it all.
Ro is summoning the heads of four of the largest petroleum companies — ExxonMobil, Shell, BP and Chevron — to testify in front of Congress for the first time about their role in decades-long climate disinformation campaigns.
The climate crisis is one of the biggest threats our country faces. Yet for decades, Big Oil corporations have profited from stalling climate action and fueling disinformation campaigns — all while collecting billions of dollars in annual taxpayer-funded subsidies.
Enough is enough. We can’t take on the climate crisis successfully without getting to the root of, and putting an end to, the spread of climate disinformation.
When Big Oil execs testify, we’re going to find out their role in spreading climate denialism in the past AND in the present, and demand a 100% commitment to halting any ongoing disinformation campaigns.
