Hi there,
The Delaware River is a rich part of our natural world, and more than 13 million people depend on it for clean, reliable drinking water. Can you imagine going a day without this critical resource?
That’s why organizations throughout the Delaware River Basin are coming together for a day of action called #DayWithoutTheDelaware to raise awareness about the essential resources and services the Delaware River and its tributaries provide for the region.
Because keeping this critical water supply safe for swimming, fishing, and drinking is a monumental task, we’re joining the conversation today by pushing hard for lawmakers to support increased funding for the Delaware River Basin. If they hear from enough of their constituents, we could see cleaner water, less flooding, and better public access.
Send a message urging you state lawmakers to prioritize funding for the Delaware River >>
Before we took serious action to protect our rivers and streams, about two thirds of U.S. waterways were unsafe for swimming or fishing because untreated waste flowed directly into rivers and lakes. We don’t have to go a #DayWithoutTheDelaware thanks to laws like the Clean Water Act, which has kept billions of pounds of sewage, chemicals, and trash out of waterways across the country. Urban waterways, like the Delaware, have gone from wastelands to centers of redevelopment and activity.
Yet despite these improvements, the Delaware River is still threatened by sprawl, polluted runoff, and frequent flooding that threaten drinking water for millions of people across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. Failing to address these issues puts the health of our families and prosperity of our local businesses at serious risk.
On this #DayWithoutTheDelaware, remind your lawmakers that protecting this critical source of drinking water and recreation matters. Take action to support funding for programs that will protect the Delaware River for generations to come >>
Thanks for all that you do.
