Barco Uniforms, which produces Grey’s Anatomy scrubs under Disney license, abandoned the Industrias Florenzi factory after making uniforms there for 15 years. The factory closed, fired its workforce, and failed to pay them more than a million dollars in wages and legally mandated severance. On average, the equivalent of two years’ wages has been stolen from each worker. The only chance that the 210 workers have of getting the money they earned is if Barco and Disney pay. But so far – more than a year since the factory closure – these companies have refused to accept their responsibility and have not paid a single penny.
“I worked for Industrias Florenzi for 15 years. We made scrubs for Grey’s Anatomy. I take care of my parents and now I don’t know what to do… We have had to take out a lot of debt because we don’t have enough money for food, medication, and other things.”
