We are staring down a constitutional crisis unlike anything we’ve faced since the Civil War. State legislators across the country, allied with the former president, are introducing and passing a myriad of voter suppression laws designed to prevent people, especially people of color, from exercising their fundamental right to vote. That former president, who incited a violent insurrection to try to stop the congressional certification of his defeat in the last election, continues to propagate, with his supporters, the Big Lie that he did not lose in November 2020. Election officials continue to face threats merely for doing their jobs and properly counting the votes.

This raises a basic question: How do we save our democracy?
