Team,

My name is Juliza. I am a 22 year-old student studying Government and Politics, but first and foremost I am a proud immigrant and Latina. For 17 years, my family and I have lived, paid taxes, and called Maryland home. We’ve built our life here, and like so many immigrant families in the US, we fear for the future.

I often wonder if everything my family and I have worked so hard to achieve will be invalidated because of our broken immigration system. A pathway to citizenship would ease our fear and we have been working for decades to make that a reality. And I won’t lie to you: The inaction in Congress is a slap in the face after everything we’ve done to support our communities and our country -- especially during the pandemic.

My family, myself, and all the immigrants residing in Maryland are community members, taxpayers, essential workers, and entrepreneurs. We deserve to feel seen, heard, and protected by our government. We deserve a pathway to citizenship, but we will never get it unless we have leaders in office who are willing to fight for it.

That’s why I’m supporting Tom Perez for Governor, and why I’m asking you to join me. Tom has a proven history supporting immigrant communities and amplifying our voices at the highest levels of government. He’s determined to keep his promises, and I know he will fight tirelessly to ensure we feel represented, heard, and protected in Annapolis. Please donate whatever you can to support Tom today.

As the son of immigrants, Tom understands how crucial it is to uplift immigrant voices and recognize our extensive contributions that benefit Maryland, and he isn’t afraid of stepping up to challenging issues and fighting for a solution.

After all, Tom’s spent his entire career fighting for working people and immigrants. First at the local level as president of the Montgomery County Council, where he fought for affordable housing and improved literacy and immigration programs across the country. Then, at the federal level in the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice where he held discriminatory school districts accountable and called for equal opportunity in education, regardless of immigration status.

We need leaders like that in Annapolis fighting for us. So, I’m asking: Please donate now to support Tom’s campaign, and help elect Maryland’s first Latino Governor.
