Dear Friend,
We’ve all heard the horror stories about online abuse. And some of us have experienced it first hand. Death and rape threats. Racial slurs. Sexual harassment. Doxing. It’s all become far too commonplace.
It’s even worse for women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and religious and ethnic minorities. Online abuse restricts free speech, undermines equity and inclusion, threatens lives and livelihoods, and erodes mental and physical health. We’re sick of this S#!T.
IT’S TIME TO #FIGHTONLINEABUSENOW ([link removed])
The social media giants keep making excuses rather than taking meaningful steps to reduce rampant hate and harassment on their platforms. But we’ve had enough. The excuses for failing to protect and support users facing online abuse have to stop. Today.
Join PEN America and the Coalition Against Online Violence in signing our petition calling on the tech companies to enact baseline measures to protect users from abuse. There’s so much more they could be doing to reduce the harm of hate and harassment, while protecting free expression. ([link removed])
It’s only going to get worse unless we do something about it, Friend. Together, we can hold the platforms accountable while calling on them to do better—and propose concrete, actionable changes.
Thank you for joining the movement to #FightOnlineAbuseNow. ([link removed])
