We’ll be gathering today, October 19th, at 1PM at Black Lives Matter Plaza (16th and I St. NW) to demand that President Biden uses his full power to ensure the passage of the Freedom to Vote Act - a groundbreaking bill that would protect our right to vote and defend our democracy.

Dear Friend,

Extremist lawmakers across the country are passing anti-voter laws attacking the freedom to vote - especially for people of color, women, and people with disabilities. These same lawmakers are now drawing hyper-partisan congressional maps to handpick their voters for the next decade.

The Freedom to Vote Act, supported by a wide majority of voters across party lines, would address these issues by creating national standards for federal elections. Yet the undemocratic Senate filibuster continues to stand in the way of our progress.

We cannot afford any more excuses: President Biden must act now to fix or nix the filibuster and protect the right to vote.

That’s why on Tuesday, October 19th, we’re returning to the White House following our October 5 action - where five movement and religious leaders were arrested for protesting for voting rights - to demand that the President use his full power to ensure the passage of federal voting rights legislation. You might even see a familiar face: March On Political Director, Andi Pringle!

Join us online or in-person to demand that the White House make the freedom to vote a priority.

• What: Solidarity event to support civil rights leaders taking direct action so support voting rights! 

As hostile state legislators have attempted to curtail voting rights this year, activists have been fighting to protect the freedom to vote by calling their members of Congress, attending rallies, writing letters to the editor, and lobbying their elected representatives.

Now, we have a once in a generation opportunity to pass a transformative bill, the Freedom to Vote Act, but there is one more barrier in the way. We must fix or nix the filibuster, and we need President Biden’s leadership in calling on the Senate to make this happen.
