We've had an incredible week, including a key endorsement and another viral webcast

John,

We've had an amazing week! Wednesday, in particular, will be hard to forget.

That night, we gained a key endorsement. I’m a proud member of Democratic Socialists of America, and the DSA–San Francisco chapter. Having taken action on so many fronts together, I’m deeply honored to have received the chapter's sole endorsement!

I first connected with DSA during the 2018 occupation of the ICE office in San Francisco’s Financial District. Since then, I’ve been a part of DSA campaigns to help unionize the first craft brewery in the country, distribute particulate masks during last year‘s wildfires, stop the related proposed PG&E bailout, and secure new funding streams for affordable housing.

This summer, the chapter elected me to represent us as one among several delegates to the 2019 national convention in Atlanta.

One of the principles guiding our campaign is the need to always promote the broader movement alongside and beyond my candidacy. That’s why we bring volunteers to actions, rallies, marches, protests, lectures, teach-ins, and meetings among groups taking action to promote climate justice, racial justice, and economic justice.

From tenants rights to criminal justice reform, and from human rights in crisis at the border to environmental racism here in San Francisco, our campaign has shown solidarity not only in rhetoric—but also in action.

On Wednesday morning, I had the opportunity to speak with John Iadarola from the Damage Report on the Young Turks. They posted our discussion under the title, "Nancy Pelosi to Lose Her Seat in Congress?"

Our interview addressed many issues, including the impeachment process. I reiterated my longstanding support for a complete inquiry—including the president's self-enrichment at public expense, which Speaker Pelosi prefers to exclude from the inquiry.

Our interview on the Damage Report also addressed how Speaker Pelosi sadly continues to suppress whistleblowers. Not only has she denied whistleblowers in the intelligence community the same legal protections enjoyed by their counterparts in other agencies, but she has imposed House rules denying most Members of Congress access to staff with security clearance enabling them to review sensitive documents and whistleblower reports.

I can't express how much I appreciate your support. As someone with neither property nor a family legacy, I'm in a position to mount this campaign only because so many people from so many parts of the country are coming together to help challenge an icon of the corporate establishment.

Thanks for being among them, and for joining us!

Solidarity,

-Shahid
