Dear John,
Chilean mining giant Antofagasta recently has tried to rebrand its Twin Metals mining project next to the Boundary Waters as clean, green, and vital to climate action in attempts to hop on the clean energy trend. Unfortunately, the reality of this project couldn’t be more opposite.
We released a report today detailing how Antofagasta is "greenwashing" its risky mining project next to the Boundary Waters.
“Greenwashing” is when a company - Antofagasta’s Twin Metals - markets itself as environmentally friendly as a diversion tactic from the actual harm it causes.

They are trying to make this dangerous project seem less risky and more necessary than it is in by:

claiming so-called dry stack technology will eliminate the risk from tailings despite the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources saying it is the wrong method for Northeastern Minnesota.*
claiming, without proof, that their tailings will not be acid generating.
falsely claiming that the mine is somehow necessary for a clean energy future.
“Despite the spin from its PR pros, Twin Metals is guaranteed to damage the fragile ecosystem of the Boundary Waters while its contributions to a green economy would be insignificant and irrelevant to our clean energy future."
- Becky Rom, Save the Boundary Waters National Campaign Chair
Take action today and tell the Biden Administration to protect the Boundary Waters.
No matter how Twin Metals attempts to spin it, sulfide-ore copper mining is not environmentally safe in the watershed of the Boundary Waters.
This blatant deception and “greenwashing” of their mine is bad news for the Boundary Waters. Take action today and tell the Biden Administration this is unacceptable. [[link removed]]

P.S. We just released a report that outlines Twin Metal’s consistent lies about the environmental impacts of its proposed mine and its ability to prevent spills. Urge the Biden Administration to protect the Boundary Waters today. [[link removed]]
