Friend,

When you see and experience things daily that you thought you'd never
see or experience, it's jarring.

In recent years, with the noxious, nonstop 24-hour news cycle of a "not
normal" president on the one hand and a set of far-reaching global
calamities on the other, it has been a serious challenge—both personally
and professionally—to maintain one's bearings.

If you work in the news, friends and family often ask: "How do you do
it?"

They say, "I could not do that. Not every day. I need to turn that stuff
off."

But here at Common Dreams, we do not turn it off. What's at stake in
these troubling times is the very survival of our democracy, our
communities, our rights—indeed, life as we know it. And we are dedicated
to this bigger-than-life story—in all its manifestations—365 days a
year, rain or shine.

And now as we look out at what's coming our way, those stakes are only
increasing. And here's the bitter question: Will what we treasure and
value still be there when we need it most?

So as we continue our Fall Campaign here at Common Dreams, please know
that our commitment is always to our readers. If you can help us reach
our goal, we vow to keep you informed on the most pressing issues far
into the future. Can you help us right now?
