DSA-LA: Post-convention Recap:
|
That's a wrap on local convention -- Thank you to all members who joined on Saturday, we are so excited to continue building this organization and fighting for socialism together with you all!
We started the day with some great reports about the state of work all around the chapter, and then heard from 3 great speakers, DSA-Long Beach and IATSE member Vick Bouzi, DSA-LA-endorsed Los Angeles City Council Candidate Hugo Soto Martinez, and Burbank City Council member Konstantine Anthony.
Check out this video showing off some of the work we've done over the past year:
As we proceeded onto business, we covered a huge variety of topics including bylaws changes and proposals for priority campaigns.
A full report will be shared soon, but here is a list of the things our membership voted to pass:
Bylaws Changes:
- The bylaws will now require that Steering Committee meetings are open to all members.
Priority Resolutions:
- DSA-LA For Universal Childcare -- The chapter is going to build a campaign to demand universal child care be funded at the county level.
- Green New Deal for Public Schools LA - The chapter is going to launch a local working group to participate in the national GND4PS campaign, demanding that federal infrastructure funding be directed into making our public schools healthier and more equitable.
- Multi-Racial Leadership Development -- The Chapter will build a local organizing Institute to invest in leadership and organizing skills, with quotas to insure we are especially investing in members of color.

Mutual Aid Book Club: Bullshit Jobs Pt. 4
|
Tuesday, October 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

What can we do about all this Bullshit? The Mutual Aid Book Club is completing the first book in our series on Alienation by closing out David Graeber’s Bullshit Jobs. For our last time on this volume, we’re reading Chapter 7 (“What Are the Political Effects of Bullshit Jobs, and Is There Anything That Can Be Done About This Situation?”). We’ll also be taking some time to reflect on the work as a whole. We hope to hear your thoughts on how to get ourselves out of so much bullshit. Doing the reading isn’t a requirement for participating, but those who are in need of the text can find the full work here: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/david-graeber-bullshit-jobs.
Please RSVP to this event to get connection information.
The Mutual Aid Book Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
