Supporter,
I'll admit: the news around the fight to pass the Build Back Better Act—otherwise known as our last best chance to address the climate crisis and prevent even further worsening environmental disasters—has been messy. The political maneuvering is complex, changes by the minute, and is largely behind the scenes. And now a key provision to fight the climate crisis—the Clean Energy Performance Program—may be dropped from the bill.
Considered one of the most powerful parts of Biden's climate agenda, the CEPP is critical to cutting our fossil fuel emissions, transitioning to a 100% clean energy economy, and keeping within the global 1.5 degree Celsius target to avert the worst of climate catastrophe. This fight just got kicked up a notch, and this is not the time to let up.

Because climate change doesn't wait—and the impacts of fires, flooding and droughts are on our doorstep—it is urgent that Congress reach a final deal on both the Bipartisan Infrastructure package AND the broader Build Back Better Act to drive action to address climate. We have never fought harder to secure every dollar in the suite of investments being proposed in Biden's Build Back Better agenda. Our mighty team is working overtime and through the weekend to offer up additional programs to close the carbon emissions gap if the CEPP is dropped, and we are reaching out to all Democrats to hold strong on the bill. We will need all 50 democratic senators and nearly every Democratic member of the House to get this done.
Every morning, our lobbyists have been meeting with our media, organizing and digital partners to plan our advocacy strategy—tracking developments with Congressional leadership and recalibrating our approach. Through the day, we're coordinating our message in the media to combat the wave of misinformation and ensure news accurately conveys what is at stake. And we're often not finished until nighttime—organizing our supporters around the country through action parties, phone banks into key Congressional offices, and in-district events that demonstrate the critical need for and enormous popularity of climate investments.
But it's an uphill battle. Fossil fuel lobbyists and anti-environment obstructionists are spending millions to water down, stall, or fully strip climate investments from the bill. (My favorite example? The fact that they are proposing that dirty fracked gas counts as clean energy in one of the most impactful programs to move our electric sector to 100% clean energy.) 98% of the votes are lined up to pass a big bold package. It comes down to two senate holdouts—Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema—who stand in the way of the transformational investments needed for climate, jobs and justice.
So we're prepared to keep up the work for as long as it takes, but it takes all of us—it takes you, Supporter.

Help us get the Build Back Better Act over the line, and protect public health, public lands and our communities with your monthly gift today. As a thank you from us, we'll send you our new FREE exclusive tote bag. Your sustained support powers all our work, in every state, with every lever we can pull, to protect our environment and create a healthier future for all.
Right now is our opportunity to come together and deliver transformational change that invests in our communities. In those on the frontlines of the climate crisis, most often Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples who face the brunt of the devastating health and economic impacts of toxic pollution. In the future and the planet our children and grandchildren will inherit.
And we're inspired by what our community has accomplished so far. We did the improbable when Democrats held the line on Build Back Better. We love seeing the photos of folks in Arizona delivering petition signatures. We smile every time we hear a story from somebody who just called or lobbied their members of Congress for the first time.
But we're not done yet. And this work takes major resources to keep it going—which is why your support is so vital to us.
