John, the Senate will bring up a major piece of voting rights and election reforms legislation for a vote.
This vote couldn’t come at a more critical moment — with hundreds of voter suppression bills sweeping the country, this is our best chance to protect the integrity of our democracy.
Here’s a quick rundown of what this plan would accomplish:
It would reduce the influence of dark money in politics and end partisan gerrymandering just as the 10-year redistricting process is underway.
It would protect our elections from foreign interference, and in the wake of the January 6th Capitol attack, it would protect against partisan election officials undermining legitimate election results.
And it would create nationwide voting standards to counteract the hundreds of state-level bills that are designed to shut out voters from our democracy — especially voters of color, low-income voters, and voters with disabilities.
Access to the ballot box is the bedrock of our democracy.
Keep fighting the good fight,
Tom
