If you’ve paid attention to the news lately, you’ve heard that Congress is debating the Build Back Better Act, a historic bill that would strengthen the social safety net, invest billions into our local economies, address the climate crisis, provide two years of community college for all Americans, and so much more.
There’s no doubt you’ve also heard Republicans and conservative Democrats complaining about paying for these investments. But there’s an easy way to fund this critical piece of legislation – and we’ve been calling for it for years: tax the rich, who are currently paying next to nothing in taxes.
Taxing the rich to pay for the Build Back Better Act should be an obvious solution – but Democratic holdouts Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema refuse to get on board. That’s why zillionaire Civic Action founder and venture capitalist Nick Hanauer just published an opinion piece to convince these last holdouts in Congress to finally tax rich folks like him.

As Congress debates this historic bill, we need all hands on deck to convince Democratic holdouts that these are exactly the kind of investments our economy needs. Join Nick and the Civic Action team in telling Congress: Pass the Build Back Better Act and tax the rich to pay for it!

Right now, the richest Americans are hoarding money, which only hurts our economy. We’d have far higher levels of economic growth today if trickle-down policies hadn’t taken $42,000 a year in wages from the average American and given that money to the wealthiest 1%. That’s because the economy is stronger when ordinary Americans get more money because they spend it in their local communities, thereby creating jobs through increased consumer demand.

If Congress raises taxes on the rich, the investments will stimulate the economy, put money back into the hands of the middle class, and help get struggling families back on their feet. That’s why our team is galvanizing our supporters to call for Congress to pass the full $3.5 trillion Build Back Better Act and finally tax the rich to pay for it.
Please, John, we’re on the cusp of passing historic legislation – but we need your help to get it over the finish line. Congress is debating this bill right now, so it’s critical that you voice your opinion as soon as possible. Tell Congress: Pass the Build Back Better Act and tax the rich to pay for it.
