I couldn’t be prouder of my son. He’s never been afraid to use his voice to stand up for what’s right against the powers that be. And now, he’s running for Congress.

When Shervin’s mother, Soheila, and I fled religious persecution in Iran in 1979, we had no idea how our lives would unfold. We escaped to Italy where we lived until the early 90’s when we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, who we named Shervin. He was just an infant when we were granted asylum in the U.S. and moved here to the San Fernando Valley.
Even from an early age, Shervin was a fighter. His inquisitive nature would lead him down new paths of discovery, and he would refuse to stop until he taught himself everything he could about it - whether the subject was T-Rex or every single Goosebumps novel on the planet.
Shervin has always fought to make the lives of those around him, especially the marginalized and less fortunate, better and more tolerable. I’m proud to say he will never stop fighting for working families and he will never compromise on the values that his mother and I instilled in him from an early age: All people, regardless of status, race or income, deserve to live in peace and with dignity and respect.
