Hello,

This week's edition will discuss rationalizing faithlessness, Apocalyptic Environmentalism and becoming more level-headed.

On The Rationalization of Faithlessness

Realization: “I can’t maintain a reliable, trusting monogamous relationship.”

Justification: Society should stop insisting that such behavior is desirable. I can’t focus and concentrate diligently on my duties. Thus, all those who have accomplished anything in their lives, past and present, have stolen their success from the victimized innocents they trampled underfoot as they ascended. I am incapable of or unwilling to think deeply and creatively. Thus, art and culture and philosophy is a sham and a con game governed by arbitrary and self-serving structures of power.

If I have failed to live by the dictates of my conscience (and we have all failed at that to some degree) then the temptation to externalize blame can become well-nigh overwhelming. Otherwise, there is too much to admit to, to abandon, to sacrifice. So the failure becomes the revolutionary so that he can stand looking at himself in the mirror. And then he capitalizes on that revolutionary romanticism, adopting the position of heroic and misunderstood outsider, playing the role of the creative transformer, with none of the talent, skill, discipline or wisdom to manage such a dangerous position without catastrophe. And then, maybe, he welcomes the catastrophe, too, as revenge against the world that made him lie so uncomfortably in the bed he so badly made.

Monday Reflections

"It's a luxury to pursue what makes you happy; it's a moral obligation to pursue what you find meaningful." (Share this on Twitter)

"Don't be a slave to stupid rules."  (Share this on Twitter)

"The secret to your existence is right in front of you. It manifests itself as all those things you know you should do but are avoiding."  (Share this on Twitter)

This Week On The Podcast

Apocalypse Never? | The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast - S4E51: Michael Shellenberger

Dr. Jordan Peterson and Michael Shellenberger exchange ideas about the Apocalyptic Environmentalism that is getting more mainstream coverage. Michael sheds light on the true impact of climate change and the theory of nuclear peace. As they dive into Michael’s new book, “San Fransicko: Why Progressives Ruin Cities'', Dr. Peterson shares his view on the book and what he enjoyed about it.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson:

"Where do people find meaning? Intimate relationships, family, community, all of that... we want a community we're a part of. We need it. It's not optional."

Michael Shellenberger:

"[Talking about his new book: "San Fransicko"] Last year, 93,000 people in the United States died from illicit drugs... It's brutal. It's barbaric. I'm very sad and angry about what's happening."

How to Become More Rational and Level Headed | Jordan B. Peterson

Dr. Peterson:

"The future authoring is a program that helps you make a plan for your life. You know what, what do you want from your friends your family your career, your education, how are you going to take care of yourself mentally and physically.

Where would you like to be in three to five years? How are you going to regulate temptation drug and alcohol use and that sort of thing, you know, keep yourself out of trouble, and how are you going to stop yourself from deteriorating, to where you could deteriorate if you weren't careful takes you can do a credible job of the program and an hour and a half, you know, it's proved very useful for people, maybe you're kind of aimless and you need to plan, that's another possibility. So but don't live with it.

You know, there are lots of things you can try: sleep, food, talk to someone, a professional if it's really out of hand because do you want to suffer terribly for the next 10 years? And plus, if you do have a lot of excess negative emotion. It's really hard on you psycho physiologically, because you produce a lot of stress hormones, and that makes you all. So, it's dangerous physically as well."
