Over the last decade, Latinos have been one of the largest driving forces behind North Carolina’s population growth. The state’s population grew so much that North Carolina gained a new seat in Congress -- but if Republican map manipulators get their way , that may not actually translate into more representation in the House for the Latino community, which tends to vote Democratic. Republicans have made it clear that they intend to manipulate the maps as heavily as possible this year. And they have powerful new legal precedent on their side that will benefit them across the country: the Supreme Court struck down parts of the Voting Rights Act that mitigated discriminatory map-drawing in 2013 and then refused to put guardrails on partisan gerrymandering in 2019.

Their goal is simple: Secure enough new safe seats through gerrymandering to win the House majority before an election is even held. And the scary thing is they could do exactly that by manipulating the maps in just four key states: North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Texas.

The NDRC has operatives on the ground in states all over the country -- including North Carolina -- who are monitoring new map proposals, shining a light on attempts to manipulate the process, and working to mobilize our grassroots supporters in favor of fair maps. But time is quickly running out to make an impact!
