Friend --

October 26, 2019

Over the past year, the Maryland Green Party has been actively working to regain Ballot Access and to lay a foundation for the 2020 election. We look forward to the 2020’s as a crucial decade for the direction of the state of Maryland and for the Planet, we know that increasingly more and more people are demanding an alternative to the two party system and we want to be well positioned to be that alternative.

So far this year we have:

  • Collected thousands of signatures to get back on the ballot for the 2020 election
  • Hired two part time staff members to help with communication and ballot access organizing
  • Adopted short term strategic planning goals that will help us build capacity for the next decade.

Members of the Maryland Green Party have been instrumental in:

  • Organizing protests against Howard County ICE Detention facility
  • Demanding the protection of historical African-American cemeteries in Bethesda
  • Demanding ranked choice voting in Montgomery County and and publicly financed elections in Baltimore City

Before the end of the year we plan to:

  • Announce plans for our 2020 Presidential Primary
  • Adopt a Maryland Green New Deal
  • Create a bylaw review process to make sure our rules align with our values

You can check out all of our 2019 accomplishments on our website, stay tuned as we update it through the end of the year.

Successful Green New Deal Event

On October 6, the Baltimore City Green Party hosted a public meeting to begin the process of crafting a Green New Deal for Maryland.

Noted in last month’s newsletter, Owen Silverman Andrews, Co-Chair of the Baltimore City Green Party published a blueprint for a Maryland Green New Deal. The whole article was published at Maryland Matters

The plan will be circulated and discussed for one month, then voted on in December. The goal is to have a policy in place by the time the Maryland state assembly gathers in January.

Ballot Access Update

We continue to work to get 15,000 signatures so that we can get back on the ballot. We are asking all of our supporters to download a petition, get five valid signatures, and mail it back in!

Your Donations Make All This Possible

Our ability to reach voters with ideas like the Green New Deal, to be on the ballot in 2020 and to hire part time staff to do the critical work of building our movement relies entirely on the grassroots donations of people like you.

We will put your money to work expanding our organizing, giving more hours to our part time staff and building the Green Party throughout the state.
