Dear fellow American, The forces of the far Left in America have never pushed as aggressively as they are today to achieve their divisive goals. To take just one example, look at the ongoing efforts to promote so-called critical race theory in American schools, businesses, and even the military. The goal is to replace the American idea of equal individual rights with the revolutionary idea of unequal rights based on group identity. Make no mistake. These efforts, if successful, will dramatically affect day-to-day life in your community and around the country. That’s why I want to share with you a recent issue of Hillsdale College’s publication Imprimis. This issue contains a speech by Christopher Rufo on the topic, “Critical Race Theory: What It Is and How to Fight It.” As the president of Hillsdale College—a private, independent, conservative college in south-central Michigan—I think that educating people on the danger posed to our liberty by critical race theory is an urgent matter. You may have heard of Hillsdale College on conservative talk radio or Fox News. You may have also heard of Imprimis, Hillsdale’s digest of liberty, which is delivered each month free of charge to over 6 million households and businesses. Imprimis contains speeches delivered at Hillsdale events by the smartest and most interesting conservative thinkers of our time. In fact, radio and television host Mark Levin says Imprimis is the publication he most looks forward to reading each month. By pushing critical race theory and other ideas destructive of liberty, the far Left is seeking to undermine informed patriotism—especially among younger Americans—and bring about a radical transformation of American government and society. Through Imprimis and Hillsdale’s many other outreach efforts on behalf of liberty, Hillsdale is engaging the far-Left on the battleground of education. In the important attached issue of Imprimis, Christopher Rufo explains why critical race theory is an attack on the basic principles underlying American liberty. And he outlines ways to fight back—first and foremost by summoning the courage to speak the truth. Imprimis is Hillsdale’s oldest and best-known educational outreach effort, but it is by no means the only one. For instance, Hillsdale also offers free online courses and has helped launch over 20 classical K-12 charter schools in eleven states. Imprimis began in 1972 with a circulation of about 1,000, and we have never charged for subscriptions. The publication remains free of charge, even as its circulation has risen to more than 6 million. The tremendous reach of Hillsdale’s educational initiatives on behalf of liberty is remarkable, given Hillsdale’s almost unique refusal to accept ONE PENNY of government support—not even indirectly in the form of federal or state student grants or loans.
