Hello, Friends
Last week, I said that I would fight for transparency in the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
This week, we fought.
On Wednesday, I led four dozen of my Republican colleagues down to Adam Schiff’s secret basement lair, where we spoke on the need for transparency:

For several weeks now, the Democrats have been holding closed door depositions in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) in the basement of the Capitol building a room designed for secrecy, even though the depositions do not contain classified information.
This faux-impeachment process has been primarily led by House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff. Chairman Schiff’s impeachment inquiry has been marked by secret interviews, selective leaks, weird theatrical performances bearing no relation to the truth, and lies about contact with a whistleblower.
All this is happening behind closed doors, where I was previously kicked out of a hearing.
Democrats are doing this in order to keep their efforts away from public scrutiny, to shut out Members of Congress who deserve to know what is going on, and to prevent transparency.
By holding hearings cloaked in secrecy, Democrats are able to control the narrative, by leaking cherry-picked information to the press. Then they point to those leaks, and say “look, this is evidence of impeachable offenses!” while, at the same time, never mentioning or leaking any exonerating information. It’s a sham and a shame from start to finish.
My colleagues and I have had enough.
The American people want to see a Congress working for them not one obsessed with attacking a President who we believe has not done anything to deserve impeachment. After holding a press conference outside the SCIF, we walked into the SCIF to demand answers from Adam Schiff. He’s gotten away with too much to be allowed to hide from the public eye and dismiss our questions.
But that’s exactly what Schiff did. When he saw the wave of Republicans walking into the hearing room, demanding to be included in the proceedings, he turned tail and ran away.

The America I know and love has a government that tries to be transparent NOT one in which rules are made up on the fly, and elective representatives hide from public scrutiny.
I spoke about this with Tucker Carlson on Thursday. Watch it below:

Despite our push on Wednesday, the impeachment process and the fight for transparency is not over. I will keep fighting for fair, open hearings!

Climate Ready Fisheries Act
As Northwest Florida’s representative, I will do everything possible to protect our forests, beaches, and ocean for generations to come. I recently cosponsored valuable legislation to gather information on the work by the Regional Fishery Management Councils, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the National Marine Fisheries Service, about how they plan to mitigate the effects of climate change on fishing communities. The fishing economy is extremely important to Northwest Florida, and I want it to remain as strong and sustainable as possible for generations to come.
On the House Floor
This week, Congress passed several pieces of legislation, including H.R. 777, the Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act of 2019. This piece of legislation, which I was proud to cosponsor, will extend grants for the Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Program, ending the backlog of unanalyzed sexual assault forensic evidence which denies victims justice and allows sexual predators to roam free. This is an important issue, and I’m glad this measure passed the House with overwhelming support.
In addition, the House also passed H.R. 724, the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act this week. This legislation criminalizes certain types of violent and abhorrent animal torture. I’m thrilled Congress has come together to condemn and penalize those who abuse our furry friends.
