Our team is growing and our movement to flip CA-08 and deliver real representation for our communities is gaining steam. Since our last update A LOT has happened, here are some of the highlights...
The momentum is real! It seems every week there is a new positive development for the campaign. Here are a few of them...
On October 5th Chris was recommended for pre-endorsement by the California Democratic Party, by unanimous vote! This recommendation ensures Chris's endorsement by the party at the Convention in Long Beach next month. Chris and the team want to share our immense gratitude to all of the delegates that voiced their support for her, and for everyone who helped secure ballots from delegates who couldn't make it to the Region 9 conference. This is a powerful show of unity among Democrats across the 8th! Congratulations to all the other candidates who were recommended for pre-endorsement. And to everyone who will be vying at the Convention, we wish you the best of luck. Never before has our district seen such a massive outpouring of qualified Democratic candidates for offices up and down the ballot.
In September a number of members of Congress also stepped up to endorse Chris! The support of these Southern California representatives is a tremendous vote of confidence for our campaign. Rep. Katie Porter (CA-45) was the first to announce her support for Chris. She was followed by Reps. Raul Ruiz (CA-36), Katie Hill (CA-25), Gil Cisneros (CA-39), and Ted Lieu (CA-33). |

Another exciting endorsement came from the Inland Empire Labor Council, AFL-CIO. The Labor Council’s multi-step process was very educational and productive. Chris will be a champion for organized labor and all workers. She's honored to have the Council’s backing.
Chris posted another strong fundraising quarter in Q3. She raised about $150,000 from individual donors who believe in her campaign. We were especially excited
Speaking of the Republicans in the race — and not so in the race… In September Paul Cook announced that he will be retiring from Congress at the end of his term! This is HUGE! Chris is now running for an open seat, which means her path to winning just got a little wider. It would be hard to believe that the mobilization of so many engaged Democrats in the 8th, along with strong fundraising and Chris’s tireless outreach to communities didn’t play a major role in Cook’s decision.
Cook's exit opened the gate for other Republicans to jump in, and did they ever. First Assemblymember Jay Obernolte announced, with Cook’s blessing. Obernolte is an anti-worker, anti-science, hyper-conservative who would be just as bad as Cook for our district and our country. After that, non-resident Jeremy Staat filed (he lives in Bakersfield), followed by our old friend Tim Donnelly. Donnelly is dangerous, plain and simple. He’s made it his life’s mission to terrorize immigrants and mobilize white supremacists to his cause. Oh, and he calls himself a responsible gun owner, but apparently not responsible enough to not “accidentally” try to bring them on a plane.
Chris has one thing to say to these guys: “Bring it on! I know we can win on issues, on values, and at the ballot box.” Democrats are closing the registration gap with Republicans in CA-08, which is now under 4%. CB HQ As you may know, in September the campaign opened our headquarters in Victorville. The office is in the Amargosa Town Center off Palmdale Ave (14156 Amargosa Rd. Suite H, Victorville, CA 92392). It’s been so much fun having the new space to hold meetings, kick off voter registration outings, and generally have a home for all of the activity surrounding the campaign. Chris said right from the start that she wanted the office to not just be a home for her campaign, but a home for all of the Democratic campaigns and activist groups in the High Desert. If you would like to hold a meeting, or phone-banking or post-carding session, just reach out to me and we’ll work it out.
Special thanks to our friends Joe Murphy, Di Kavadas, and Edie Trimmer for donating a bunch of furniture to outfit the office. And super special thanks to Tim Copeland for actually MAKING a conference table for us! Also, Seta Ghazarian, Holly Purser, and Samantha Villaneda, thank you for giving the space some heart and soul!
Today we’re holding an office Grand Opening & Volunteer Orientation on Saturday October 26, 3:00-6:00pm. Come get training on voter registration, talk with Chris and the team, and have some fun!
Voter Registration Thanks to all the amazing volunteers who have been coming out to register voters in the Victor Valley with Chris Bubser for Congress! We’ve been going out at least once a week, getting new Dems in the mix. This is hard work but so important. If you want to get involved with voter registration, check out our upcoming outings. If those don’t work for you, and you have at least two people, please come by anytime and we’ll get you set up with everything you need!

Volunteer Spotlight: Samantha Villaneda Volunteers are the backbone of this campaign. You are the ones making it happen! This newsletter we’re spotlighting one of our most amazing volunteers: Samantha Villaneda. She’s been showing up for Chris since her first meet & greet in Apple Valley way back in April. Now Samantha is in the office several days a week helping with whatever she can, from graphic design to sending out thank you letters to donors to registering voters. She’s a graduate of Apple Valley High School and is currently in her third year studying philosophy and political science at Cal State San Bernardino. There’s no question that Samantha will be making a positive impact in the high desert—or wherever she might land—for a long time to come. Thank you Samantha!!! |

I hope you're enjoying this as much as I am. The energy is infectious, the community is incredible, and the prospect of Chris winning in 2020 gets more real every day.
