John,We have devastating news. Federal wildlife officials recommend removing 22 animals and one plant from the endangered species list because they are now extinct.
The announcement provides a glimpse into a rapidly approaching world where a worsening global biodiversity crisis threatens more than a million species with extinction, many within 20 to 30 years.
In the words of one of the federal wildlife officials responsible for monitoring species, the latest update is “a sobering reminder that extinction is a consequence of human-caused environmental change.”
Some of the animals lost include the ivory-billed woodpecker of the Arkansas bayous, the Bachman’s warbler from the Southeastern United States and Cuba, and the Kauai O’o, a Hawaiian forest bird whose song now only exists on recordings.
[[link removed]] DONATE $20.22 [[link removed]]John, we were too late to save these animals. But by acting now, we can save other endangered species that will be next if we don’t act. Species like the blue whale, the chimpanzee, and the polar bear.
We’ve had success before saving endangered species. If it wasn’t for the Endangered Species Act, we would’ve lost the humpback whale, the American alligator, the grizzly bear, and the California condor. Even the bald eagle — the symbol of our country — would be extinct today if not for the Endangered Species Act.
Our SEEC members of Congress are highlighting the dangers of climate change and other activities threatening the existence of vulnerable species.
But we can’t afford to let up, John. Can you donate to our SEEC members as they keep fighting to protect endangered species from the ravages of human-caused environmental change? [[link removed]]
