Dear John,

This week the House voted on a piece of legislation that I’ve been working hard on along with my fellow North Texan Congressman Colin Allred. The SHIELD Act is a bill that would require foreign campaigns to report offers of assistance from foreign entities to the FBI and the Federal Election Commission, as well as restricting political social media ads.

After the 2016 election, you would think this would be something that all members of Congress would support, right? Yet no Republicans voted in support of this common-sense solution bill.

Now that it’s passed out of Congress it will head towards Mitch McConnell’s desk over in the Senate. He says that the bill would reduce free speech - does this mean he’s supporting the right of other countries to have a say in our elections? Whose side is he on?

It is absolutely crucial that we take every step we can to make sure we strengthen up our election system in 2020. Will you have my back and keep the pressure on the Senate by making a contribution to my campaign today?

You can count on me to keep fighting for the SHIELD Act so we can assure every voter in America that it is their voice being heard at the ballot box, not some foreign government’s.
