If passed, the Build Back Better human needs investment agenda will lift up millions of people by reducing childhood poverty and ensuring the expanded Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit are extended for years to come. The expanded Child Tax Credit is already having a major impact on the lives of working families. Previously, millions of families did not qualify for the Child Tax Credit because they did not earn enough. But now, the poorest families are benefiting, and it is helping them to make ends meet. Data show CTC payments are already helping millions of families get enough to eat and pay their bills.1
This tax credit is providing essential help to people who need a hand, but we need to make sure Congress acts to Build Back Better and extend this critical tax credit beyond this year.
The expanded Child Tax Credit is expected to cut the country's child poverty rate in half in one year. But, right now, it is in jeopardy of being cut back in the Build Back Better Act.
Together, we’re fighting to make these critical investments permanent. Join CHN and our growing national coalition to demand Congress make the expanded Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit’s increase for workers without children permanent by passing the Build Back Better investment agenda.
The expansion of the Child Tax Credit is estimated to reduce child poverty by more than 40%, with higher reductions in poverty rates of Black and Latinx children.
Congress expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit for 17 million low-income workers without dependents for 2021. These are frequently workers in low-paying jobs―especially Black and Latinx workers, who played an essential role in making sure our country has been able to operate throughout the pandemic. This EITC expansion gives millions of people the chance to get back on their feet financially.2
At this urgent time of need, we need Congress to act swiftly. And the next few weeks are going to be crucial to ensure that both the House of Representatives and the Senate pass the strongest piece of legislation possible.
Send a letter to Congress today demanding they go big and bold! Don't let them cut the expanded CTC and EITC!
