John -
After losing the House, the Senate, and the White House in 2020, Republicans are taking aim at voting rights in order to undercut our Democratic House Majority.
When the Senate had an opportunity to outlaw voter suppression and stop partisan gerrymandering this summer by passing H.R. 1 — The For the People Act — every single Republican voted NO.
But the fight for voting rights is far from finished: NewDems led the charge to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act through the House last month, which would restore the full protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and outlaw racially discriminatory voting practices.
Inspired by Trump’s Big Lie and voter fraud conspiracies, more than 400 bills aimed at restricting voting access have been introduced in GOP-led legislatures in 2021.
Not only do these bills erode the right to vote, but these thinly veiled voter suppression bills will make it that much harder for Democrats to win and compete in competitive districts in 2022. We need to take action now to ensure that every single American can make their voices heard in the midterm elections.
The future of our democracy is at stake: Sign on now to demand that the Senate PASS the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and put an end to voter suppression!
Thank you,
NewDems
Growing up in Fort Worth’s historic Como neighborhood, Marc Veasey didn’t dream about being an elected official. He just hoped that he would one day be able to make a difference in the lives of his friends and neighbors. That simple goal has taken him all the way to the halls of Congress, where he is proud to represent not only the friends and neighbors he grew up with but hundreds of thousands of diverse voices across North Texas. Now, Marc continues his fight to protect the voices of all Texans as the Founding Co-Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus.
