Hi John,
My team told me we’re still short of hitting our critical October
mid-month goal before tonight's deadline.
They suggested I reach out to explain why I hope you will chip in to our
campaign and support the progressive movement we’re building in Congress.
So I’m going to share my story with you. It’s important that you know what
I’m striving toward in Congress and what inspires me to do this work.
[ [link removed] ]When you finish reading, I hope you can chip in $5 to
help us reach our big mid-month goal and make sure our team has the
resources we need to continue pushing for bold, much-needed change in
Congress.

There aren’t many people in Congress who have lived the struggles that I
have, John.
But there are millions of people in our communities who have.
I’ve been evicted, unhoused, and lived in a car with my two babies. I will
never forget the nights when I was unhoused where my eyes would water as I
fought to stay awake, worried about what would happen to my children if I
fell asleep. When I used McDonald's bathrooms to mix baby formula and wash
my body because I had no other options.
I’ve been on the ground brutalized by police violence. When Michael Brown
was murdered by police just six minutes from where I lived in 2014, I
didn't take to the streets for a title or a name. I was sent by my
employer to serve as a triage nurse and to assist with grief and trauma
work. But, I showed up to protest the day after Michael Brown was killed,
and I came back every day for the next 400 days.
Day after day, I watched the police beat people unconscious, arrest people
for stepping off a sidewalk, and use tear gas and rubber bullets on
innocent people. I kept asking myself, where are the elected officials who
are paid to represent us?
Through this work, I was asked by a community member to run for office to
push for the change we desperately need in St. Louis and communities like
it. That’s why every day I’m in Congress I carry with me all these
experiences. I remember all the folks back home who are hungry to see a
politician finally represent them and speak to the challenges our families
face today.
I’ve seen time after time the way we can move mountains through people
power. From pushing the Biden Administration to extend the eviction
moratorium, to introducing legislation around transforming public safety –
we’ve made tremendous progress already. And it’s all thanks to supporters
like you,
John.
Together, I know we can finally pass the urgent policies our communities
need, but I can’t do this without your help.
That’s why today I’m asking for a favor: [ [link removed] ]Will you chip in
$5 or anything you can to help us reach our October
mid-month goal before tonight's deadline? Every dollar you give powers our
grassroots movement and gives us the resources we need to write a new
chapter in politics centered in justice, love, and compassion.
Thank you for all of your support.
Your Congresswoman loves you,
Cori
