Every cycle you see the same surge as election day nears. The political ads start dominating the commercials of your favorite shows. Organizers send text messages asking you to knock doors or phonebank. Candidates email asking you to chip in. And a flurry of other election-related activities pick up their pace — all in the last few months before voters hit the polls.
This is all important work, but the problem is that most campaigns start seriously doing this outreach just a few months out from Election Day. But Team AOC does things differently. We operate on a 365-day campaign model — engaging voters where they’re at all year long. We don’t take non-election years off from organizing, because we won’t make progress on winning the policies we need if we only engage in this work when it’s time to vote.
The truth is a 365-day campaign takes enormous resources to operate. While most campaigns spend millions of dollars in the final 90 days before an election, we strategically invest early in our organizing, communications, and advertising. That’s why it’s so important that we keep up with our monthly fundraising goals this year — but right now we’re about halfway through October, and we’re not halfway towards our goal.
