My name is Miesha, and I’m the Advancement Manager at Alliance San Diego. I want to start by thanking you for supporting our mission in building collective power to create a democracy that represents all of us.

Today, Alliance San Diego is launching its Annual Giving Campaign to raise funds that will help us continue creating a better San Diego. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and activate 100 new volunteers.

With your support we are developing leaders, protecting human and civil rights, communicating strategically, advocating policies and engaging community members like Faye to be active participants in our democracy. When we use the love and power of our collective voice, we can create the change we want to see. Just take a look at a few of our successes from the past year 🎉

To make sure everyone is counted, we boosted Census participation in 47 hard-to-count tracts by 20 points from 2010 to 2020, helping San Diego attain one of the highest self-response rates in California, which will translate into increased resources and representation for our communities.

To make sure every voice is heard, we contacted more than 100,000 infrequent voters directly and reached 1 million voters through digital outreach to encourage their vote, contributing to a record turnout in 2020, and one of the highest turnout rates in California in 2021.

To make sure everyone is treated with dignity, we led an effort with our partners to pass a new bipartisan humanitarian law in Congress that authorizes funding for new 911-relay rescue beacons in the borderlands to help save the lives of migrants and residents in distress.
