The Trump administration launched another dreadful attack on clean water last month by finalizing a plan to repeal the lifesaving Clean Water Rule. That's why this week, NRDC and our partners filed suit against the Trump administration to block their efforts to strip away crucial clean water protections that some 200 million people across the U.S. rely on.
Trump's reckless plan jeopardizes drinking water supplies for hundreds of millions of people and puts our very health at risk by giving big polluters the green light to contaminate thousands of vital streams, wetlands, and other critical drinking water sources.
Point blank, this gutting of long-standing clean water protections is illegal.

The EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers not only ignored the harm their dangerous rollback would cause, but they also rammed it through without giving people an adequate chance to voice their concerns.
The fact is, Trump and his big polluter allies are trying to dismantle water protections that have been in place for almost 50 years. But we're not going to let them get away with it — that's why we're facing off against them in court to restore these critical clean water protections.
Sadly, this is just the latest of countless attempts by the Trump administration to roll back critical environmental protections. But NRDC will keep fighting back against their brazen attacks — and we're prepared to drag them back to court as many times as it takes to protect clean air and water, our environment, our climate, and our health from these relentless assaults. President Trump's EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers JUST finalized its atrocious repeal of the Clean Water Rule, jeopardizing the drinking water supplies of millions of Americans, while rewarding its polluting industry allies.
This disastrous move guts clean water safeguards and gives fossil fuel giants, factory farms, and other industrial polluters a green light to contaminate thousands of vital streams, wetlands and other water sources that feed our drinking water supplies.
Trump's decision is reckless and illegal. But NRDC is ready to fight back — even if it means going to court.
The courts are our best chance to block this outrageous assault on our drinking water.

The landmark Clean Water Act has protected our drinking water supplies, swimming spots, and fishing holes from dangerous pollution for nearly 50 years. And under this Act, the Clean Water Rule was established to clearly define which bodies of water are covered under this protection — including wetlands that filter pollution and curb flooding, and streams that feed drinking water supplies for more than 117 million Americans.
Clean water is a right and a necessity. The EPA's job is to protect our health and protect our water bodies from industrial pollution and waste, but Trump's misguided attack on clean water strips away these vital protections from critical streams and wetlands across the country and threatens to contaminate drinking water supplies and destroy important habitats for aquatic species like birds, fish, ducks, and other wildlife.
