An exciting update from the 40 Days for Life team in Portland this week!
"I arrived with Joel after we had attended Mass at St. Cecilia's. We met three men praying the rosary together out front with other 40 Days For Life prayer volunteers. Joel and I went to stand away from them at the back entrance. It was 9:30 in downtown Portland before the rush of businesses opened. We both noticed a nicely dressed young couple walking towards us in the back. They stopped, turned around, and walked back to the front of the 511 building. Joel noticed that the young woman looked very pregnant. I rushed to try to give them help, but as I got to the front entrance, I saw them waiting in the lobby elevators."
"I gave Geri, another trained pro-life advocate, my pamphlets to hand to them if by some chance they came back out soon. We were all disappointed in ourselves for letting this young couple slip past us without interceding for them."
Here's what happened next in Geri's words: "We saw them go in very quickly with you in pursuit! (I was too late, and they didn't see me). Then, five minutes or less, they emerged from the front door and I (Geri) stepped forward and offered them both help and information. To that, the man responded, 'We aren't going through with it. You guys made a difference!' After that, they both very quickly and quietly walked away, leaving us all stunned and then overjoyed!!!"
"Abortion is never an answer. We needed to be there to give this young couple courage and clarity."
The team asks to please pray that this young couple and their baby receive all the emotional, practical, and spiritual help that they will need.
