John,
Don't get us wrong: vaping-related illnesses and deaths are a serious public health crisis that requires swift Congressional action. After 34 deaths and counting, the Trump administration is calling for a complete and total ban on flavored e-cigarettes because "we can’t allow people to get sick" and "we can’t have our youth be so affected.”
Now, the American people are calling Trump's bluff. Thousands of people die every year as a result of senseless gun violence. It's not just the mass shootings you hear about on TV -- innocent people are gunned down on our streets every day in this country.
From Columbine to Parkland, it should be clear by now that our students are in the direct line of fire while Republicans continue to do nothing about it.
John, sign the petition to demand Trump treat guns like e-cigarettes.
It's strange how many Republicans jumped on the opportunity to save lives when it came to research and common-sense regulations around vaping -- but the very opposite is true when it comes to guns. Though maybe not so strange when you consider how much dark money pours into their campaign coffers every year thanks to their good friends at the gun lobby.
What's even more frustrating is that corporations and private industries have done more to address this crisis than both the Senate and the White House combined. Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, Levi Straus, and Yelp have all stood up for the safety of their employees, customers, and everyone living in the communities they serve.
The majority of Americans support background checks, gun licensing, assault weapons bans, and countless other gun violence prevention strategies -- it's time for Trump and his cronies in the Senate to do the same.
Gun violence must be met with the same urgency as vaping -- action that we now see the GOP is capable of.
Thanks,
Congressman Evans HQ
