Hi Friend, I wanted to give you a quick update on the new electoral maps in Texas.

The redistricting process is still underway -- and that means our lawmakers are making decisions that will affect Texans’ ability to fairly choose our elected leaders for the next ten years. Nothing is a done deal yet. But just this week, Republican legislators voted to approve maps that dilute the voices of Black and Brown voters across our state.

Since the last time electoral maps were drawn in Texas ten years ago, our population has grown -- so much so that Texas is now getting two additional seats in Congress. 95% of that growth has been in communities of color -- and our new electoral maps should reflect that. But unsurprisingly, Republican lawmakers have done just the opposite.

The maps that Texas Republicans approved this week actually reduce the number of Black and Brown majority districts. Friend, that’s just plain wrong. Texas is a majority-minority state, and we’ve gained new political power because of the growth of communities of color. Yet Republican lawmakers are denying Black and Brown Texans the opportunity to have a fair say in who represents them.

Texas Republicans are trying to erase Black and Brown voters from our electoral maps as yet another attempt to silence their voices. Friend, we can’t let that happen. Can we count on you to chip in $7 or whatever you can to stop Texas Republicans from shutting down the voices of Texas’ growing majority?

The electoral maps approved by Texas Republicans this week are racist and undemocratic. They know it. We know it. So it’s time we hold them accountable. Because every Texan deserves to be fairly represented.

Let’s keep fighting,
