Did you know that the battle for reproductive rights will soon hinge on MS?
Right now, the U.S. Supreme Court is getting ready to hear a case from Mississippi that could put the right to abortion at risk across the nation and turn its back on nearly 50 years of precedent. New research shows that nearly half of the women of reproductive age (18-49) in the United States — more than 36 million people — could lose access to safe, legal abortion.
Which states are most likely to quickly move to completely ban abortion if this case succeeds? According to new research from Planned Parenthood: Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia are at the top of the list.
To be honest, we didn’t pick these states out of a hat. Groundwork chose to work in these states because we wanted to help the communities who have the most at stake in some of the biggest political battles of our time.
Democratic failure to sustainably invest in political infrastructure in places like Mississippi has paved the way for GOP supermajorities to pass legislation stripping reproductive freedom. But Groundwork is investing, will you invest with us?
We know that the only way to turn back the anti-choice tide sweeping our states is to support the organizations on the ground, doing the work to protect reproductive freedom where it is most at risk.
Donate to the GWP grant fund to help us support local organizations in our partner states, now.
From abortion to voting rights to LGBTQ+ equality: Building (and rebuilding) local progressive power in red states is the best line of defense we have against a nationwide, conservative agenda.
