This is big news, John: Last month, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Chris' bipartisan legislation to reform criminal drug sentencing. The Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act would give first time drug offenders -- no matter their age -- a second chance at life. Right now, first time drug offenders can have their records expunged only if they are under the age of 21. This legislation would remove that arbitrary age requirement. It's simple, common sense, and far more just than the current law. Will you show your support for this common sense criminal justice reform bill? Sign Chris' petition to help advance the Begin Again Act in the Senate >> Chris believes that no one should be defined by just one single mistake they've made. But the truth is, our current criminal justice system doesn't treat everyone with that same understanding. This legislation helps to fix that and give more people a second chance. The Begin Again Act has a wide range of support, from advocacy groups like the ACLU to law enforcement to conservative organizations. All of these diverse stakeholders agree this is a good bill that we should pass now. Join the diverse group of people calling for common sense criminal justice reform. Add your name today to Chris' petition. Thank you, Team Coons |
