#OffOn – Don’t switch off our online rights

Over recent months, Index on Censorship has been working to ensure MPs and the public are aware of the unintended consequences that may arise from the UK Government’s planned Online Safety Bill. That work continues.

The EU is now developing its own online legislation along similar lines with its Digital Services Act. We have launched the #OffOn campaign to tell MEPs not to switch off our freedoms online and instead to protect fundamental freedoms of expression while strengthening the rule of law relating to criminal offences. Read about the campaign here.

As we prepare for challenging and necessary conversations at COP26, Index on Censorship brings attention to the cases of people whose voices are too easily forgotten in climate change debates.

Join us for the virtual launch of the autumn edition of Index on Censorship magazine, A Climate of Fear, with US lawyer Steven Donziger, indigenous defender and filmmaker of Siekopai nationality, Jimmy Piaguaje, and writer and activist Beth Pitts who has been working with indigenous communities in Ecuador. The conversation will be chaired by Index on Censorship acting editor Martin Bright.

Support Index on Censorship's ongoing work
Index on Censorship defends people's freedom to express themselves without fear of harm or persecution. We publish censored writers and artists, monitor and campaign against censorship, and encourage debate.

We rely on donations from readers and supporters. By donating to Index you help us to protect freedom of expression and to support those who are denied that right.
