It happened again. Partisan gridlock forced us up to another government funding deadline, and Congress came dangerously close to another government shutdown. Without Republican votes to fund the government for the coming year, the only option was a temporary funding bill that kicks the can down the road and leaves our country and our federal workers vulnerable to another shutdown.

Senator Warner has a word for this never-ending cycle of brinkmanship and shutdown threats: it’s just plain STUPID.

In 2019, when we were in the midst of the Trump shutdown debacle, Senator Warner introduced the "Stop Shutdowns Transferring Unnecessary Pain and Inflicting Damage in the Coming Years Act" or Stop STUPIDITY Act to finally put a stop to these ridiculous government shutdowns.

Here’s the deal: if Congress and the President can’t reach a deal to fund the government, then Congress and the White House should shut down -- not the rest of our government that should continue serving the people.
