Democrats have the thinnest possible majority in the U.S. Senate right now. That makes everything harder — and we’ve got some big jobs on our hands, from child care to health care to the survival of our planet.

Our work would be a whole lot easier if we had some more progressive Democratic senators in the fight. So I’ve already endorsed two terrific candidates who can flip Republican seats next year: Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin and Charles Booker in Kentucky. They can win, but they need our help.

Charles Booker is the right Democrat to beat Rand Paul. He’s campaigning on a bold progressive agenda that does right by working families and makes billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share. And he fights from the heart because he knows firsthand how policy decisions touch the lives of working people. He grew up in one of Kentucky’s lowest-income ZIP codes. Sometimes, he went hungry. Sometimes, he had to ration his insulin. Now, he’s fighting for a country where everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected, has a chance to thrive — in Kentucky and across the country. He is that special leader who can bring together a winning coalition and flip this Senate seat.

In Wisconsin, Mandela Barnes has taken on tough battles, delivered results for people across the state, and shown that he’s ready to take this seat back from Ron Johnson. He’ll fight to put Washington on the side of hardworking families like the one he grew up in. His mom was a Milwaukee school teacher, and his dad worked the third shift at the General Motors plant. Those were solid, middle-class union jobs — the kind of jobs that could support a family. But those jobs have slipped away as giant corporations have gobbled up more and more power. As a senator, Mandela will fight to rebuild the middle class, root corruption out of Washington, and strengthen our democracy.

I can’t wait to get to serve alongside Charles Booker and Mandela Barnes. They will make us proud. But first, we’ve got to make sure they have the resources they need to win. And when it comes to grassroots donations, early investments go the furthest to help plan their campaigns all the way through Election Day.
