A Covid update

More than 730 people have died in Oldham due to Covid, and we’ve had more than 40,000 cases across the borough.

We're continuing to see a rise in the number of people being hospitalised because of the virus and we're also seeing a slow rise in the number of deaths.

These worrying numbers are not just statistics; they reflect real people within our communities. This is why we’re doing all we can to encourage people to stop the spread of Covid in Oldham.

Benefits to getting young people vaccinated
Transmission rates among young people are continuing to soar, resulting in even more time away from school.

The benefits to young people getting vaccinated are:
• Reduces their chance of becoming seriously ill
• Lessens the risk of developing long Covid
• Limits time spent away from school
• Cut the time spent away from friends
• Improves mental health due to more time socialising

There's also the wider benefit to our communities in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

We encourage all parents to consent to their children getting vaccinated as part of the school vaccination programme.

The Annual Canvass is underway

Last month, letters were sent to some households asking residents to confirm or update details on our voting register.

Our teams are now out and about knocking on doors helping residents with the process, answering questions and confirming and updating information on the electoral register about who is eligible to vote at the property.

They are ALL carrying ID to prove who they are – they do not need to enter your home, so please don’t invite them in.

Oldham Landlord fined £2,675

An Oldham landlord has been charged thousands of pounds for not complying with his selective licence conditions.

Roger Howarth has been fined £2,675 after a large number of bin bags were traced back to a property he owned.

Officers visited the property on three separate occasions and found that there were no waste bins and ordered Mr Howarth to order new ones. During one visit it was also discovered that the electric meter was dangerous and needed to be replaced. This wasn’t done.

Legal proceedings began when he failed to do this.
