Dear John,
Caravans of tens of thousands of would-be illegal aliens each are headed to America at this moment. Yet instead of increasing enforcement, Democratic leaders in Congress are working to approve thousands of dollars of taxpayer subsidies for each illegal alien who can avoid deportation long enough (extremely easy) to have at least one child in this country.
In fact, 79% of current illegal aliens who file tax returns would qualify for cash payments from the IRS, regardless of whether they've paid any taxes!
The cash payments would be the result of changes made in how the IRS handles child credits on tax returns. If the budget reconciliation bill passes as is, those child credits could be paid even to those who don't work. Huge numbers of working-age American parents won't get those payments because their income is too high. But most illegal-alien parents would receive the payment because of lower incomes.
NumbersUSA focuses on immigration legislation, so we have no position on most spending issues. The big exception is where government spending rewards illegal aliens for being in this country! We are dead set against encouraging foreign citizens to come to America illegally to take jobs and taxpayer funds from American workers!
Keeping an amnesty for illegal aliens out of the budget reconciliation bill would be a great victory -- Democratic leaders in Congress still haven't given up! -- but we also can't allow that same bill to encourage millions more illegal aliens to come!
Fight for American workers and American taxpayers. Please give.

John, most illegal immigrants (79%) would qualify for these "low-income child tax credits" because they have low skills and low earning potential. A new study from the Center for Immigration Studies shows that almost half (46%) of illegal aliens who are heads of households lack a high-school diploma. Compare that to only 5% of American-born heads of households. Low education often means low wages in a modern economy like ours.
This goes back to the original "gumball" video, which helped launch NumbersUSA. As Americans, we have over 300 million fellow citizens we are responsible for. As massive as that number sounds, there are seven billion people on the Earth. We can't provide welfare for billions of poor people around the world, and it's unjust to provide specially for those who come to our nation illegally.
This plan is worse than simply unwise spending. It's importing poverty and unskilled workers... at a time so many unskilled Americans still aren't working.
At NumbersUSA, as we always say, we're all about the numbers. Our objections to mass, uncontrolled or unhelpful immigration has nothing to do with ethnicity or country of origin.
But when we see the conditions that result from encouraging massive illegal immigration at this time, of course we are upset.
PLEASE NOTE: This is just another problem we have with the budget reconciliation bill. Various Democrats are still trying to find a way to grant a massive amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. They're on to "Plan C," which is to issue what's called a "parole" to at least seven million illegal immigrants. We still must keep up THIS fight.
So, we're fighting on two fronts. We need your help. Please give.
