Supporter,
Have you ever seen an ivory-billed woodpecker? If the answer is no, I'm sorry to report that you're almost certainly too late. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service just declared this iconic species extinct.
Alarmingly, the ivory-billed woodpecker isn't alone in this fate—22 other species were also declared extinct, including the flat pigtoe mussel, Bachman's warbler, and nine species of plant and animal life from Hawaii alone!
Supporter, I'm furious because scientists warn that, due to the climate crisis and massive habitat loss due to human activities, we will see more and more of these grave extinction notices. I'm heartbroken that this is just a preview of what is to come.
We're not going to sit idly by and let that happen—and I know you won't, either. Help us fight the climate crisis and protect habitats before we lose even one more precious species forever—please, rush your monthly support to the Sierra Club now + claim your FREE gift.
The world's wildlife populations have declined by two-thirds in the last 50 years, and scientists report that over one million species are now at risk of extinction. Humanity's imbalanced and extractive relationship with nature and our planet have pushed us into a mass extinction crisis.
Our fate is intimately tied to that of healthy lands, waters, and biodiversity. We must take action to protect nature and species that we coexist with and depend upon, so we can ensure our own future.
To that end, we must fully fund the Endangered Species Act and repeal the Trump administration's changes—which left the gray wolf, and other species vulnerable. We must preserve 30% of lands by 2030—to preserve critical species habitat and help combat the effects of the climate and extinction crises.
And we must do this now, because the climate crisis—fires, drought, floods, temperature swings—and widespread habitat loss makes species recovery more difficult by the day.
Please, fight alongside us to protect wildlife habitat and tackle biodiversity loss with a monthly gift to the Sierra Club now. Act now and claim your FREE limited edition gift!
Supporter, I never want to write another letter like this, announcing the death of a precious, irreplaceable species. With your support, we will preserve biodiversity—ensuring a bright future for all species, including humans. With appreciation,
Dan Chu
