These headlines are hard to see, John. And these are stories from just this week alone. You don’t have to look far to find evidence that domestic violence and firearms are a deadly combination. That’s why keeping guns out of the hands of people who commit domestic abuse has always been a priority of ours. And it is why we’re asking you to pitch in today to support our federal campaign to disarm domestic violence.

Being safe from gun violence shouldn’t depend on your relationship status. But right now, for countless survivors of domestic violence it does. A gap in federal law, the so-called “boyfriend loophole,” allows abusive dating partners and convicted stalkers to have guns. More than HALF of all intimate partner homicides are committed by dating partners. If this deadly loophole isn’t closed, we will continue to see devastating headlines like those we shared today week after week.

At the Alliance, we have helped pass and implement the nation’s strongest domestic violence protection order laws in Washington state. Now, we are fighting tirelessly to bring that progress to the federal level. But our resources are stretched thin. We need your help to keep the pressure on Congress to ensure that we don’t miss the opportunity to make this lifesaving progress while we have gun responsibility majorities in the federal government. Please, donate now to fund our fight to disarm domestic violence.

Thank you,
Renée (she/her)
