John — bad news:After doing everything in its power to stop it, the Biden administration will comply with a court order that requires an offshore drilling lease sale for the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s a step being taken reluctantly by the administration.
Soon after taking office, President Biden ordered a review of the impact of the federal oil and gas leasing program on the environment. The Department of Interior suspended lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and the lower 48 states during the examination.
However, a Louisiana U.S. district court placed an injunction to block the moratorium. As a result, the Department of Interior had to resume lease sales.
John, President Biden and his administration are doing all they can to protect the environment from the devastating consequences of offshore drilling. But drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is one key example of where their hands are tied without action by Congress.
President Biden can’t do this alone. Congress can enact legislative fixes to prevent the fossil fuel industry from further spoiling our environment. That’s why we need more SEEC members in Congress. Can you contribute immediately to help elect more SEEC members? [[link removed]]
DONATE $20.22 [[link removed]]Right now, in Southern California, we see the environmental impact of an offshore drilling disaster. Wildlife, beaches, and wetlands are devastated by 126,000 gallons of oil spurting from a broken pipeline. The wetlands may be permanently damaged by this disaster.
President Biden and his administration are acting within the bounds of the law to prevent future such disasters. But the fossil fuel industry is pushing back hard, using the courts to get their way.
Can you help us elect more SEEC members who will take on this challenge in Congress? [[link removed]]
