On Wednesday, Trump's allies on Capitol Hill broke into a closed
impeachment hearing, violated security rules, and intimidated a key
witness, delaying her sworn deposition for five hours.

And the corporate media did exactly what Trump wanted them to do.

For an entire news cycle, they ignored the substance of Trump's
corruption and focused on the spectacle—repeating ad nauseum, without
qualification, Trump's bogus complaints about preliminary interviews of
witnesses in private, outside the glare of the media.

This is just the latest example of how Trump plays the corporate media
like a fiddle—and why our independent, nonprofit model of journalism is
needed now more than ever.
