I’ll get right to it: the Senate filibuster is outdated and undemocratic -- and because of it, millions of Americans continue to wait for relief that we should already be providing.

Here’s how the filibuster works. Under our current Senate rules, most bills need 60 votes to pass. That means even though Democrats hold the majority, Mitch McConnell holds a veto on vital legislation like the Build Back Better plan and the For The People Act. And with the way the Republican Party operates nowadays, there’s absolutely no chance they’re going to provide the additional votes we need, no matter how impactful this legislation is.

Instead of waiting for Republicans to do the right thing, Democrats should exercise their majorities in the Senate, House, and the White House to pass the President’s overwhelmingly popular agenda. That starts with ending the filibuster.

The filibuster is a Jim Crow era relic of a bygone time in politics, and now it’s being used to prevent Democrats from solving some of our nation’s most pressing issues. It’s time to end the filibuster. Add your name if you agree >> [[link removed]]

I hate sounding this hyperbolic, team, but our democracy is truly at stake here. We’re fighting to maintain and expand on our majorities, but we must pass legislation to protect our democracy and invest in working families.
