John,
Today is George Floyd's 48th birthday. He should still be here today, celebrating with his friends and family.
George Floyd was a living example of how everyone can make a significant impact in their own communities. That's why we're uplifting the George Floyd Memorial Foundation and the first-ever George Floyd Volunteerism Week happening this week from October 10th-16th.
George Floyd Volunteerism Week is an opportunity for us all to have an impact on all through service projects to support our communities. For George Floyd's 48th birthday, together, we will carry out the deeds that George Floyd would still be doing if he were alive today.
Let's make George Floyd Volunteerism Week a
worldwide movement to positively impact our communities and to ensure peace and development. Here are some ways you can take action:
-
Record your be the change video: Turn on your camera and tell us how you are being the change through volunteerism. Create your video > keep it under 59 seconds > post and tag @JusticeForGeorge with the hashtag #BeTheChange.
-
Share your volunteerism picture: Take a picture of you volunteering and post and tag @JusticeForGeorge what you were able to accomplish and why volunteering is important to you.
-
Invest in the community: Donate to the George Floyd Memorial Foundation as we honor George Floyd's legacy by uniting and activating our communities to challenge the root causes of racial inequity and end the systemic violence affecting Black Americans.
The goal is to have 100,000 volunteers around the country and world to engage in acts of service including volunteering at a local food bank, helping people register to vote, donating blood, community cleanup projects, and volunteering at animal shelters, among many others.
Please follow the social media channel @JusticeForGeorge on Instagram and use the hashtags #BeTheChange and #JusticeForGeorge to be part of the movement.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
