These are the two first numbers we see when we log into our ActBlue dashboard: how many contributions we’ve received so far this month and what our average gift size is.
Traditionally, most campaigns pursue fundraising with one number in mind: $2,900. That’s the maximum one person can contribute to a primary campaign — so candidates spend a lot of their time calling and spending time with wealthy donors who can afford to write a large check.
But our grassroots movement is built different. Instead of relying on wealthy donors and corporate PACs to max out, our campaign is funded entirely by individuals in communities across the country giving $13.40 to emails like this one to help build our power and fight for real change for working people.
How does a $13.40 contribution compete with a $2,900 check? Well, to us, 200 people giving about $13.40 is a lot more powerful than one person giving $2,900. This is how we can take on wealthy special interests and make our government work for working families — but it only works if we’re able to hit all of our goals.
In order to be on track for our October targets, we need to hit at least 10,000 grassroots contributions by our mid-month fundraising deadline at midnight tomorrow.
Our movement is only as powerful as the grassroots support behind it. Let’s show that grassroots campaigns like ours aren’t slowing down, and the momentum behind us is not slowing down.
